Care by an OB/GYN
Every procedure at Oshun is reviewed and led by a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Dr. Rockhead is a physician first — the same one who treats women's health on the other side of his practice.

Three decades as a practicing OB/GYN at Amadeo Medical Group, the parent clinical practice. Every Hymenoplasty plan is reviewed by a physician who has cared for women through pregnancy, surgery, perimenopause, and post-natal recovery.
Every Hymenoplasty patient leaves consultation with a written plan: areas, technique, timing, recovery, cost. Returning patients refine the same plan rather than starting from scratch every visit.
Oshun's approach favours conservative, considered care over aggressive intervention. Decisions are made in conversation with you, options are presented in plain language, and consent is informed at every step.
Hymenoplasty disappoints when the healed reconstruction doesn't behave as the patient expected or when the underlying personal concern wasn't openly discussed at consultation.
The hymenal ring is anatomically variable and does not always bleed on first penetration even in patients who have never had intercourse. Patients whose primary goal is bleeding on a wedding night should know in advance that hymenoplasty does not guarantee this outcome. An honest consultation conversation about goals is the only way to set expectations correctly.
The other consideration is timing. Procedures performed too close to the intended event don't have time to heal properly; procedures performed too far in advance may not still be intact. The 4–6 week window from procedure to event is the standard sweet spot.
At Oshun, we don't run that model. Hymenoplasty here is physician-led from consultation through follow-up, with a written plan in your hands and a follow-up visit on the calendar before you leave.

A Hymenoplasty visit at Oshun follows a clear sequence — from consultation through the procedure itself through follow-up. Here is what happens, step by step.
Before any Hymenoplasty is scheduled, you meet Dr. Rockhead in person at 9 Devon Road. He reviews your medical history, examines you as appropriate, and explains the options — including the option not to proceed. You leave with a clear written plan and a quote.
Stop blood thinners 7–10 days before where medically safe. Schedule outside menstrual period.
Under local anaesthesia, Dr. Rockhead either reapproximates remaining hymenal tissue with fine absorbable sutures (simple technique) or constructs a new ring from vaginal mucosa where tissue is insufficient. The procedure is performed with full privacy and discretion.
Ice packs for 24 hours. Loose cotton underwear. Prescribed analgesics and antiseptic. Avoid tampons, sexual activity, swimming for 4–6 weeks. Brief check at 2 weeks; final healing review at 6 weeks.

Most first-time patients arrive with the same set of unspoken questions. They are answered below in the order most people think them — from "how much will I need" to "what if I'm pregnant."
| What it is | Hymenoplasty is a surgical procedure that reconstructs or repairs the hymenal ring. It is performed for cultural, personal, or psychological reasons, typically as a same-day office procedure under local anaesthesia. |
|---|---|
| How long it's been around | Hymenoplasty has been performed for decades. It is a procedure with strong cultural and personal context and is performed in a private, non-judgemental clinical setting. |
| What we treat with it | Hymenal disruption from various causes; patient preference for restoration; cultural or personal reasons. There is no medical indication for hymenoplasty — it is patient-led care. |
| How much you'll need | Single same-day procedure. Two main techniques: simple reapproximation of remaining hymenal tissue, or a more involved reconstruction using vaginal mucosa flaps where tissue is insufficient. |
|---|---|
| Will it hurt? | Performed under local anaesthesia in the office, with optional sedation for patient comfort. |
| How long the visit takes | Plan for about 30–60 minutes for the procedure itself; total visit 1–2 hours. |
| Time off after | Most patients return to work within 1–2 days. Avoid tampons, sexual activity, swimming, and strenuous exercise for 4–6 weeks. |
| When you'll see results | Healing typically complete by 4–6 weeks, at which point the reconstruction is ready for its intended purpose. |
|---|---|
| The days before your visit | Stop blood thinners 7–10 days before where medically safe. Schedule outside menstrual period. |
| Right after your visit | Ice packs for 24 hours. Loose cotton underwear. Prescribed analgesics and antiseptic. Avoid tampons, sexual activity, swimming for 4–6 weeks. |
| Two-week follow-up | Brief check at 2 weeks; final healing review at 6 weeks. |

Hymenoplasty isn't a one-size category — the right approach depends on your specific situation. Below are common patient profiles we see. If one sounds like you, an in-person consultation at 9 Devon Road is the next step.
The most common reason: cultural or religious significance attached to hymenal integrity at marriage. The conversation at consultation is non-judgemental and patient-led.
Some patients seek hymenoplasty for personal reasons they don't wish to discuss in detail. Dr. Rockhead respects that.
Sometimes part of recovery after sexual assault. Care is coordinated with appropriate counselling and medical-legal support.
Some patients request hymenoplasty after childbirth for personal reasons; uncommon but is performed when clinically appropriate.
