Care by an OB/GYN
Every procedure at Oshun is reviewed and led by a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. Dr. Rockhead is a physician first — the same one who treats women's health on the other side of his practice.
Perineoplasty at Oshun is performed by Dr. Charles Rockhead — a surgical procedure that repairs and tightens the perineum (the area between the vaginal opening and the anus), typically after childbirth or for vaginal laxity. Often performed together with vaginoplasty.

Three decades as a practicing OB/GYN at Amadeo Medical Group, the parent clinical practice. Every Perineoplasty plan is reviewed by a physician who has cared for women through pregnancy, surgery, perimenopause, and post-natal recovery.
Every Perineoplasty patient leaves consultation with a written plan: areas, technique, timing, recovery, cost. Returning patients refine the same plan rather than starting from scratch every visit.
Oshun's approach favours conservative, considered care over aggressive intervention. Decisions are made in conversation with you, options are presented in plain language, and consent is informed at every step.
Perineoplasty disappoints when the underlying concern was vaginal-canal laxity (which perineoplasty alone doesn't address) or when patients still planning vaginal deliveries undergo it prematurely.
Perineoplasty addresses the perineal floor; vaginoplasty addresses the vaginal canal. Patients whose primary symptom is perceived vaginal looseness are usually better served by combined vaginoplasty-plus-perineoplasty than by perineoplasty alone. Diagnosing which structures are contributing is the main job of the consultation.
The other consideration is timing relative to future pregnancies. As with vaginoplasty, vaginal delivery after perineoplasty can undo the repair. The procedure is typically deferred until childbearing is complete.
At Oshun, we don't run that model. Perineoplasty here is physician-led from consultation through follow-up, with a written plan in your hands and a follow-up visit on the calendar before you leave.

A Perineoplasty visit at Oshun follows a clear sequence — from consultation through the procedure itself through follow-up. Here is what happens, step by step.
Before any Perineoplasty is scheduled, you meet Dr. Rockhead in person at 9 Devon Road. He reviews your medical history, examines you as appropriate, and explains the options — including the option not to proceed. You leave with a clear written plan and a quote.
Stop blood thinners 7–10 days before where medically safe. No sexual activity or douching for 1 week before. Pre-op labs and medical clearance.
Under anaesthesia, Dr. Rockhead excises redundant perineal skin and approximates the underlying perineal body musculature. Closure is in layers with absorbable sutures. When combined with vaginoplasty, both procedures are performed in sequence in the same operative session. Takes 45–90 minutes.
Ice packs for 48 hours. Prescribed analgesics, antiseptic regimen, and stool softeners. Avoid sexual activity for 6 weeks. Wound check at 1 week, healing at 2–3 weeks, clearance at 6 weeks, final outcome at 3 months.

Most first-time patients arrive with the same set of unspoken questions. They are answered below in the order most people think them — from "how much will I need" to "what if I'm pregnant."
| What it is | Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure that repairs and reshapes the perineum (the area between the vaginal opening and the anus). It is performed to repair stretching, scarring, or laxity from childbirth and to restore comfortable function and appearance. |
|---|---|
| How long it's been around | Perineal repair is a standard part of postpartum gynaecology and has been adapted for elective cosmetic-functional restoration when initial healing leaves residual concerns. |
| What we treat with it | Perineal laxity, scarring from prior episiotomy or tear, gaping vaginal introitus, and discomfort during intercourse attributable to the perineum. Often combined with vaginoplasty. |
| How much you'll need | Single surgical session. Often combined with vaginoplasty in the same operative day. |
|---|---|
| Will it hurt? | Performed under regional or general anaesthesia when combined with vaginoplasty, or local anaesthesia with sedation when standalone. |
| How long the visit takes | Plan for about 45–90 minutes for the procedure; total surgical day 3–5 hours. |
| Time off after | Plan for 5–7 days off work. Avoid sexual activity, tampons, swimming, and strenuous exercise for 6 weeks. |
| When you'll see results | Initial shape visible immediately. Healing complete by 6 weeks; final result at 3 months. |
|---|---|
| The days before your visit | Stop blood thinners 7–10 days before where medically safe. No sexual activity or douching for 1 week before. Pre-op labs and medical clearance. |
| Right after your visit | Ice packs for 48 hours. Prescribed analgesics, antiseptic regimen, and stool softeners. Avoid sexual activity for 6 weeks. |
| Two-week follow-up | Wound check at 1 week, healing at 2–3 weeks, clearance at 6 weeks, final outcome at 3 months. |
| Consultation policy | Every Perineoplasty patient meets Dr. Rockhead in person at the 9 Devon Road clinic before any procedure is scheduled. (Virtual consultations are not currently offered.) |
|---|---|
| Where treatments happen | Perineoplasty is performed at an accredited ambulatory surgical centre when combined with vaginoplasty, or in the Oshun procedure room for standalone local-anaesthesia cases. |
| What it costs | Priced based on whether standalone or combined with vaginoplasty. Written quote at consultation lists all components. |
| How to pay | Cash, debit, credit card, or approved financing. |
| Insurance | Cosmetic perineoplasty is not covered. Documented functional indications may qualify for partial coverage. |
| Who should not have Perineoplasty | Active genital infection, bleeding disorders, pregnancy, plans for further vaginal deliveries in the near term, body dysmorphic disorder. |
Perineoplasty isn't a one-size category — the right approach depends on your specific situation. Below are common patient profiles we see. If one sounds like you, an in-person consultation at 9 Devon Road is the next step.
The most common indication: women who finished childbearing and notice a gaping introitus, perineal scarring, or perineal laxity since vaginal delivery.
Patients with painful or tender prior episiotomy scars can have the scar revised as part of perineoplasty.
Vaginoplasty plus perineoplasty in the same operative session is the most comprehensive single-session intervention for post-childbirth changes.
Patients with chronic painful intercourse attributable to perineal scarring sometimes find perineoplasty resolves the symptom when other approaches haven't.

Open any of them. We've written each answer the way Dr. Rockhead would actually say it — not the way a brochure would.
Perineoplasty is often part of a broader post-childbirth repair plan. The consultation is where the contributing structures get identified, the right combination of procedures gets chosen, and the recovery plan gets written.
