Questions answered privately
What is PRP hair restoration?
PRP hair restoration is a treatment for thinning hair. It uses platelet-rich plasma made from your own blood, injected into the thinning areas of the scalp.
A small blood sample is taken from your arm and spun in a centrifuge at the clinic. That separates out the part of the blood that is concentrated in platelets.
It is made only from your own blood. There is no filler, no added medicine and no donor product.
The words, explained
- PRP
- Platelet-rich plasma: the part of your blood, concentrated in platelets, that is separated out when the sample is spun.
- Platelets
- Small cells in the blood, best known for helping it clot.
- Centrifuge
- A machine that spins the blood sample so that its parts separate.

The visit, step by step
The consultation
You meet Dr. Rockhead in person at 9 Devon Road before anything is booked. He reviews your medical history with you. You leave with a written quote.
Before your visit
Drink plenty of water in the 24 hours before, so the blood draw is easy. Tell us about every medicine and supplement you take.
At the visit
A blood sample is taken from your arm, as for a routine blood test. It is spun in the centrifuge while you wait, and the platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the scalp.
Afterwards
Changes are gradual, not instant. Whether to have a further visit is decided with you.
Not all hair loss is the same, so the treatment should not be either.
August is Hair Loss Awareness Month. Hair thins for many reasons, from family history and hormones to tight styles and stress.
Thinning at the hairline after years of tight braids, weaves or ponytails is different from thinning at the crown, or a widening part, that runs in the family. Both are different from the shedding that can follow illness, childbirth or a stressful stretch. The cause decides what will help.
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, is prepared from a small sample of your own blood and injected into the scalp by Dr. Rockhead. There is no synthetic filler and no donor product.
It is not right for every kind of hair loss. The consultation is where you find out whether it suits yours, before anything is booked.
