Questions answered privately
What is Botox?
Botox is the brand name for a very small, purified dose of a protein called botulinum toxin type A.
It is injected into the facial muscles that make expression lines, and it relaxes them gently for a time. The aim is softer lines and a rested look, not a frozen one.
The effect is temporary. It lasts about three to four months for a first-time patient.
The words, explained
- Expression lines
- Lines made by movement: frowning, raising the brows, smiling.
- Unit
- The measure that Botox is dosed and priced in.
- Dose mapping
- A written record of the dose placed in each area of the face.
Four things that are true of every visit

At a glance
The short answers first. The detail is on the pages linked further down.
How it feels
The needles are ultra-fine, so most patients feel a brief pinch. Numbing cream is available if you would rather not feel it.
How long a visit takes
15 to 30 minutes from arrival to leaving. The injections take a few minutes.
Time off afterwards
None. No anaesthetic and no bandages. You can drive home or go back to work.
Where
Oshun, 9 Devon Road, Kingston. The same address and the same medical team at every visit.
Who it suits
Lines between the brows, across the forehead and at the outer corners of the eyes.
When to wait
Not during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis, with an infection where the injection would go, or after an allergic reaction to Botox.
The visit, step by step
The consultation
You meet Dr. Rockhead in person at 9 Devon Road before anything is booked. He reviews your medical history with you. You leave with a written quote.
Before your visit
Skip alcohol for 24 hours beforehand. If it is medically safe for you, also skip aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory medicines for about a week, to lower the chance of small bruises.
At the visit
Dr. Rockhead watches how your face moves as you frown, smile and raise your brows, and writes down the dose for each area. The skin is cleansed, then he makes a short series of small injections into the muscles he mapped.
Afterwards
Stay upright for four hours, and skip the gym, hot tubs, saunas and facials for 24 hours. Most patients begin to see an effect by day three. You are seen again at two weeks.
Will I still look like me?
Skin changes with time, and the plan for it can be gentle.
It is a fair question to bring to a first consultation, and the answer depends on the plan. Small, mapped doses are planned to soften expression lines while keeping natural movement. Filler is planned by the millilitre, to restore what has changed and avoid overfilling.
Botox at Oshun comes with a follow-up at two weeks, and fillers with a settle check at two weeks. The result is reviewed, not left to chance.
Microneedling works differently. Fine sterile needles make controlled micro-injuries in the skin, which prompts it to produce its own collagen.
- Botox
- Physician-injected, with documented dose mapping and a two-week follow-up.
- Fillers
- Juvederm hyaluronic acid, planned per millilitre, with a two-week settle check.
- Microneedling
- A minimally invasive skin treatment using fine sterile needles.
